Bought some sleeping bags!

Bought a couple of sleeping bags, which is good, because I slept in one at the office a couple of weeks ago, and Cha and I slept in them for the first couple of nights here.

Really impressed – for $60 delivered, this is a terrific couple of bags.

This Beyond Vault Sleeping Bag provides comfort and quality.  It features a rectangular design with a detachable hood, and has a soft hollow fibre filling. It also has a draw cord on the top of the bag and around the hood as well as a wind baffle to keep heat in and cold breezes out.

Somewhere to live in Melbourne

Well, I’ve got a place to live in Melbourne. After a couple of months of serviced apartments and bumming around with friends both here and Geelong (which is where I’m on the way back to now, on the train) we’ve got a place.

It’s only temporary, though – it’s a furnished studio apartment in Brunswick West which we’ve got a four month (extendible) lease on. Gives us some breathing room to find a place to buy. It’s very basic – one room with a kitchen, bed, couch, tv in it and a bathroom as well – that’s it.

Cha gets here on Saturday night, and I’m moving in on Thursday. SO I’ll be in the sleeping bag for a few days (we have to get some new linen for the place, as ours is in storage…) Pretty much everything else is there, so that’s why we got it :-)

Really glad I bought the sleeping bags the other week, though – I didn’t realise they’d be useful so soon, given we need them this weekend, and I used one last weekend to sleep at work.

Still, as terrific as it’s been to have a place to live in Geelong, and with terrific people, it’s going to be very nice living less than 80km from work!!!

Great cursors

Custom alpha blended (semi-transparent) mouse cursors by XsX for Windows XP and Vista - auto-install package v1.0

Higly recommended. I installed them a couple of days ago and they really make life easier on the laptop, but I’ll also install them on the desktop if I ever get it setup anywhere.

Download, install, done. It’s that easy.

And about time…

Yes, a new post.

Firmly ensconced in Melbourne. Well, at this time I’m in Geelong, but the principle is the same – I’m a long way east of Perth.

First things first – Cha’s still not here. Yet. She’ll be over in less than four weeks, and she was over a couple of weeks ago. Still, the worst part of this (now we’re packed and out of Flinders St) has been living on opposite sides of the country.

Work is terrific – excellent people to work for and with. I’m getting around to the clubs and meeting people, and trying to get to meet all the football managers so when I ring them for things, they know who I am.

Housing. Ahhh, housing. Seems that inner-city housing over here is generally sold via auction, usually run by agents who lie by preference and out of habit. From what I’ve seen, (and bear in mind I had a good agent in Perth), it’s FAR worse here than in the West. (I’ve found one agent who appears decent, but I’ve met a few…)

I spent the first couple of weeks in an apartment that work provided, then with some friends in Port Melbourne, now with friends in Geelong.

Walking to work from the apartment was pretty cool. A short walk after the tram from Port Melbourne was pretty cool as well.

A 20 minute walk after an hour or so on the train from Geelong isn’t too bad either, really. I load up some stories from the web before heading off, and then read them and do email, etc, on the way in.

There ya go – six weeks worth in a minute! I’m good to you.

Done and Dusted

Well, we’ve spent our last night in this place. Moving van is here this arvo – then we’re off to ADYJ & Nelly’s and on Monday I’m off to Melbourne. Packing is nearly done.

Hard to believe. I’m sure I’ll be excited once I’m not so exhausted :-)

Really going to miss this place – fantastic house, but the symbolism of a three-car crash outside yesterday afternoon (that soaked up a valuable hour) wasn’t missed :-)

We’re getting there!

And it’s a good thing – the moving truck is here on Friday afternoon.

The MX5 is off to the AutoTrans place on Friday morning.

We’re off to AYDJ and Nelly’s on Friday night.

Saturday is housecleaning.

Sunday is church and farewell.

Monday 6am is the flight to Melbourne.

So much to do, it seems…

Getting there

most of the books are packed, LOTS of stuff gone to the opshop. Getting a bunch of audio tapes ripped and thus disposed of.

Gotta backup another copy of the vital data and work out how to transport it across the country in a different way to the main data. (How cheap are 750GB drives these days! So nice.)

Moving prep

Well, we’re getting rid of stuff. I got rid of Cha to Bridgetown for a couple of days, then got rid of stuff.

About 8 x 55l plastic crates of books around to the op shop, 6 x shopping bags of cricket books to my mate at the WACA, a crate of videos and toys to the op shop.

And throwing stuff away! Oh, I’m good. Filled the (250l) bin for Wednesday, then filled it again for collection on the other side of the road on Thursday @ about 6:15am. (I deserve it for all the early morning wakeups they’ve given me.)

Making a couple of trips a day with the crates to the opshop. Man I’m efficient. Getting rid of shoes tonight, it seems. I’ve got some really nice shoes (from Rivers) which I’ll get to wear in Melbourne as I won’t be able to slope around in shorts and joggers :-)
